TECHNICAL OVERVIEW
Advent eDocs is a web-based document management system built on Microsoft technologies and designed to run within a Windows server environment. The application is hosted using Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) and accessed by users through a web interface.
User access to the system is provided through standard web browsers, eliminating the need for dedicated client software installation on individual workstations. Document ingestion and management are handled centrally by the server, simplifying deployment and administration.
Authentication and Integration
Advent eDocs supports multiple authentication methods, allowing organizations to integrate the system with existing user directories and services. Authentication options may include internal user management, directory-based authentication, and other supported identity sources, depending on configuration.
These options allow organizations to align system access with existing security and account management practices.
Document Storage and Indexing
Documents uploaded to Advent eDocs are stored in their native file formats within the file system, while associated index data is stored in a relational database. This approach keeps document content and metadata separate, supporting efficient storage and retrieval.
Scanned documents can be processed using optical character recognition (OCR), enabling full-text search capabilities for supported file types.
Search Capabilities
Full-text search functionality allows users to locate documents based on their content as well as indexed metadata. Search behavior depends on supported file formats and configured indexing components, and may be extended through additional indexing filters where applicable.
Backup and Recovery
Because documents and index data are stored using standard file system and database structures, Advent eDocs can be incorporated into existing backup and recovery strategies. Organizations may use their preferred backup technologies and schedules to protect system data.
Network Access and Security
Advent eDocs can be deployed for internal network access or made available externally, depending on organizational requirements. Secure connections are supported through standard encryption mechanisms provided by the hosting environment, helping protect data in transit.
